ZigBee Alliance and Thread Group issued a joint statement announcing that ZigBee's application layer protocol will be implemented on the Thread network architecture. Standardization of protocols for devices in a variety of applications, such as smart homes.
The emergence of Thread is to support different application layer protocols, and the cooperation between the two helps to jointly create a complete home network product solution. After reaching a consensus on cooperation, both ZigBee and Thread will take a big step, thus reducing the fragmentation of the industry.

ZigBee is well known. Thread technology is a rising star in smart home wireless communication technology in recent years. It also follows the 802.15.4 standard. The network architecture is based on IPv6 and provides users with secure and open network connectivity. The line environment provides data exchange and backup through the Internet and any device, providing product developers with a reliable, low-power and self-recovering connection option in existing short-range wireless communication technologies.

Whether the combination of the two can solve the standardization of the protocol, we still don't know. We switch the scene to industrial occasions, and the node capacity becomes a major pain point for all kinds of ZigBee solutions, not the unification of the protocol. For the industry, the combination of the two will promote the unification of industry standards and change the current divergence of standards.
