Recently, Bosch and Germany's largest kart manufacturer Mach 1 Kart, FIA New Energy Committee, and German Motorsport Association (DMSB) launched an electric kart prototype "e-Kart" in Berlin. As the cradle of all professional racers, the current karts are powered by conventional internal combustion engines, and the electric system is still used for the first time in go-karts.
Based on the Bosch energy recovery main push system BRS and Mach 1 karting chassis, the whole set of power is provided by two electric motors with a maximum power of 20 kW, and the maximum torque of 300 Nm is transmitted to the rear axle, so that the e-Kart has a top speed of 130 km per hour and an acceleration time of 100 km. Less than 5 seconds. Moreover, the BRS also provides an automatic start-stop function, and the recovered energy will be stored in Bosch's 48V lithium battery pack. A set of ECU programs designed specifically for e-Kart will control the energy flow of the vehicle.
In a typical production car, the BRS can provide an additional 15 kW of power and 150 Nm of torque while accelerating, and can reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by 15%. Bosch said it will begin mass production in 2017.
The new power system will also make the go-karts cleaner and more efficient, without losing performance. The only difference may be the lack of engine roar and the smell of gasoline in the air.
