Reduce power consumption by 30%
The LD823425 utilizes the newly developed MP3 file format hardware decoder to reduce power consumption during encoding by 50% compared to previous products. The device also utilizes a low voltage 90 nanometer (nm) process to provide a total power consumption of approximately 5 mW, achieving the industry's lowest MP3 recording/playback power consumption levels. In addition, it includes a Class D headphone amplifier to reduce power consumption during audio playback. These features enable the LC823425 to deliver up to 30% less power than previously introduced audio processing products such as the LC823410. The new LC823425 is ideal for miniaturized in-unit battery packs and extends working hours.
Kenichi Kiyozaki, manager of digital large scale integrated circuit (LSI) development at Sanyo Semiconductor, said: "The LC823425 audio processor uses a hardwired MP3 encoder/decoder technology that is better than a DSP software solution. Power consumption levels and faster processing speeds."
Built-in DSP supports different types of audio processing Sanyo Semiconductor's unique 24-bit DSP supports multiple audio processing algorithms, making full use of the proven software resources and shortening the time-to-market for different types of audio processing applications. For example, this device supports common functions of digital recorders, such as noise reduction (including noise reduction and clearer audio playback), sound collection (using low-latency noise reduction processing and high-gain amplifiers to make real-time audio clearer) Speed adjustment (slow the speech rate, and expand the voice data to the silent part to maintain the original playback time).
Compared to Sanyo Semiconductor's previous products, the new MP3 decoder and playback algorithm included in the LC823425 enables variable speed playback to operate at twice the speed (0.5x speed to 4x speed, 1.2V (V) operation).
Further, by using the "music analysis technology" in which the music data is parsed from the audio data by the LC823425, it is also possible to analyze and record only the music portion of the FM (FM) broadcast.
Sanyo Semiconductor also provides development software to meet customer specific requirements and further expand product features.
Kenichi Kisaki said: "Our audio processing products have a good reputation because they have lower power consumption and are widely praised by customers. We plan to release more products and create new markets for simultaneous recording/playback and high-speed recording functions. Our share in the digital voice recorder market."
Price and availability
Samples of the LC823425 are available now, with volume production scheduled for July 2011. The device is available in FBGA221J (11 mm x 11 mm) and TQFP128L (14 mm x 14 mm) packages. The unit price for a 10,000-piece lot is $7.00.
