PTC and Microsoft collaborate to launch MR production tools, allowing users to easily create Hololens interactive experiences

At the Microsoft Ignit Technology Conference recently held, PTC announced that they are developing a corporate mixed reality experience through Microsoft HoloLens. PTC and Microsoft will work together to help customers use the ThingWorx Studio MR production publishing tool, making it the preferred way to develop a HoloLens hands-free MR experience.

ThingWorx Studio based on Vuforia provides local support for HoloLens customers to help them quickly develop a scalable, mixed-reality experience. ThingWorx Studio's visual drag and drop development environment with built-in gesture and voice command support enables users to quickly and efficiently create immersive HoloLens interactive experiences without the need for proficient programming or expensive custom designers.

Terry Farrell, director of marketing for mixed reality at Microsoft, said: "The combination of ThingWorx Studio and HoloLens offers industrial customers tremendous opportunities to develop immersive hands-free MR experiences for a range of key use cases, including sales. And marketing, manufacturing and services, as well as human resources and training. The partnership with PTC allows HoloLens customers to create this experience faster and more easily, taking advantage of this opportunity."

The combination of ThingWorx Studio and HoloLens will be presented at the PTC ThingWorx Studio booth at the Microsoft Ignite Technology Conference. With ThingWorx Studio, attendees will learn how to quickly and easily create a mixed reality experience in corporate settings. The MR demonstrations will include a sales and marketing use case (customers can view different product options presented in front of them); and a service application case (field service technicians will be able to view specific repair steps in the field of view), and this Everything can be hands-free with HoloLnes.

Mike Campbell, executive vice president of PTC's ThingWorx Platform, said: “Manufacturers face challenges in designing, developing, operating and maintaining intelligent networking products. The combination of ThingWorx Studio and HoloLens enables users in the enterprise environment to be simpler and faster. A more cost-effective way to address some of these challenges. We are happy to work with Microsoft to help industrial customers gain competitive advantage through the use of MR.”
