Beijing, China—October 25, 2018—Maxim Integrated Products, Inc (NASDAQ: MXIM) announced the launch of four micro-system-level IC (uSLIC™) modules for the factory automation, medical, communications and consumer markets to help engineers achieve better design. The MAXM17552, MAXM15064, MAXM17900 and MAXM17903 step-down DC-DC power modules are the latest members of the patented technology portfolio of Maxim Himalaya power solutions, providing the widest input voltage range (4 to 60V) with the smallest solution size.
At present, miniaturization is still the development trend of various system designs, many of which also require a wider input voltage range. For example, because the transmission line is very long, the power supply voltage in factory automation equipment is susceptible to its influence and produces large fluctuations. USB-C and 12V nominal applications require up to 24V operating voltage protection to prevent transients caused by power and/or battery hot swapping. The latest Himalayan uSLIC power module extends the voltage range of the product series to up to 60V, compared to the previous maximum of 42V, and the solution size (2.6mm x 3.0mm x 1.5mm) is more than half reduced compared to the closest competitor product . The module uses a Himalayan buck regulator with synchronous rectification and wide voltage input, built-in FET, compensation and other functions, and integrates shielding inductors. The integrated inductor in the module can simplify the most difficult part of power supply design, so that designers who lack power supply design experience can build a stable and reliable power supply circuit within a day.
The latest uSLIC modules are:
MAXM17552, 4 to 60V, 100mA module, 100 to 900kHz adjustable switching frequency and external synchronization frequency, 82% efficiency (24V VIN @ 5V/0.1A), in a 2.6mm x 3mm x 1.5mm package
MAXM15064, 4.5 to 60V, 300mA module, 500kHz adjustable switching frequency and external synchronization frequency, 82% efficiency (24V VIN @ 5V/0.1A), built-in output voltage monitoring, 2.6mm x 3mm x 1.5mm package
MAXM17900, 4 to 24V, 100mA module, 100 to 900kHz adjustable switching frequency and external synchronization frequency, 86% efficiency (12V VIN @ 5V/100mA), built-in output voltage monitoring, 2.6mm x 3mm x 1.5mm package
MAXM17903, 4.5 to 24V, 300mA module, 500kHz fixed switching frequency and external synchronization frequency, 77% efficiency (12V VIN @ 3.3V/300mA), built-in output voltage monitoring, 2.6mm x 3mm x 1.5mm package
Main advantage
Provides the widest input voltage range in the smallest size: the industry's widest input voltage range (4 to 60V), the smallest package size (2.6mm x 3.0mm x 1.5mm), which is more than half the size of the closest competing solution
Ease of use: For designers with less experience, one of the most difficult challenges is to choose an inductor that can meet the power, size, radiation, and temperature requirements of a particular design. Himalaya uSLIC modules provide integrated shielded inductors, comply with data sheet standards, meet all electrical requirements, and allow designers to create a power circuit in just a few hours. Just select the input and output capacitors, and set the output voltage through the resistor divider network, you can get a complete working power supply
High reliability and compliance with electromagnetic interference standards: Meet CISPR 22 (EN 5022) Class B EMI requirements, avoid redesigning the power supply; Pass JEDEC certification, can withstand drops, shocks and vibrations
Evaluation
"With Maxim's uSLIC module, we can add next-generation functions to the K30 illuminated touch buttons without expanding the size of the housing." said Chuck Dolezalek, Senior Director of Engineering at Banner Engineering.
"Although industrial and consumer system designs are becoming more compact, many designs still require a wider input voltage range. Now, Maxim's Himalayan uSLIC power module series uses a patented technology combination to provide the industry's widest input in the smallest package size Voltage range (4 to 60V), which will help our customers and designers of space-constrained applications meet stringent power consumption and efficiency requirements." said David Stein, vice president of Digi-Key Electronics' Global Supply Management Department.
"As we are opening our arms to Industry 4.0 from personal products to factory production, great changes have taken place in power demand. We are committed to providing the best solutions and promoting further innovation. The latest Himalayan uSLIC products are bound to play an important role in this arena. "Viral Vaidya, Director of Business Management of Maxim Integrated Industrial Power Supply Division.
