Apple is patented by Lidar or will be used in the automotive field

According to the technology website AppleInsider, Apple has acquired a patent related to indoor lidar, which can be used to create more accurate three-dimensional maps. Apple's new patent describes the hardware and functional specifications of a new lidar sensor, designed to include fixed mirrors, scanning mirrors, photodetectors, and laser emitters.

The patent application documents show that Apple's own development of laser radar technology is due to the existence of "high power consumption, long product development cycle, and limited resolution, depth resolution or accuracy, frame rate".

Apple's new system has improved some or all of the indicators. As Apple increases the intensity of its indoor map business, the accuracy of 3D spatial data is especially important.

In addition to mass consumer products such as Apple Maps, ultra-high-precision map data is critical to the development of driverless cars. There have been rumors that Apple is developing driverless cars, and the new laser radar will make it even more powerful in this field.

Apple is not the first Silicon Valley technology giant to develop lidar technology. Google revealed at the end of last year that it has developed an inexpensive solid-state lidar system that costs less than $1,000 — far less than the current $75,000 for similar products.
